Walmart has achieved unprecedented safety results by using daily learning reinforcement to build and sustain employee knowledge.
Walmart is the world’s largest retailer with 11,500 stores in 28 countries employing 2.3 million people. Its logistics operation in the US was looking to dramatically decrease risk, reduce accidents and injuries, along with the associated costs. The goal was a safety culture that would be the envy of the world. But with distribution centres all over North America - each with their own safety cultures - the company needed a solution that could be tailored to meet the needs of different employees.

In 2012, Walmart Logistics began implementing the Axonify platform. During each shift, employees spend between three and five minutes playing a fun game while answering safety questions. They get instant feedback, so they know which questions they’ve answered correctly and where they need to improvement. Learning reinforcement helps them refresh their existing knowledge and plug any gaps.
This approach ensures that the knowledge of employees increases and they don’t forget what they’ve learned previously. Today, more than 75,000 Walmart associates in more than 150 distribution centres across the United States are reinforcing their learning on safety practices in this way.
